Quote Series (Daniel Kaluuya)

Quote:

“The pivot was: I’m not trying to be good or great, I’m trying to be honest.”

Daniel Kaluuya

I love that this particular interview and this quote are making rounds on the internet. I love that Daniel Kaluuya is in front of people’s mics just telling his truth and keeping it completely real.

What does this quote mean to Bree?

As a creative, a big struggle for me is always, “what if people aren’t ready for, don’t understand, or don’t want my type of authenticity? I ask because honesty and authenticity are a huge part of my creativeness.”

This is my question when it comes to my articles because I truly keep it real in everything that I write, and I love to write about the things that I don’t like about the world. I generally do this with the hopes that eyes are opened to the ways that these things can ruin life for future generations. Things like lacking consideration, lacking humility, lacking humanity… these are all things that will reverberate through the generations! You’ll teach your kids to act this way and then within the next 20 or so years, it’s anarchy and you’re asking why! The answer is in your face now!

I want things to be better by writing about how they truly are today. I want them to be better for people in similar situations who see their lives in waves of struggles but find solace in learning that they’re not alone in this experience.

I love writing authentically and honestly as me and I feel that a lot of people can’t see me or my work today because it’s easy to ignore someone who is doing something different from what the masses are all doing similarly.

It would be easy for me to go online and post videos or post pictures in exactly the same fashion that everyone else is doing, but instead I’m posting quotes from my articles.

I’m posting thought-provoking questions and I’m posting articles that are longer than 120 characters. It’s different and you have to actually want to get to it to get to it.

And that is how I remain completely and honestly in my creative bag. Regardless of if people are on board with it or not; regardless of if people see me today or not, I know that my words, my writings, my thoughts, and the actions that my thoughts provoke will spark the conversations that I want to be having with people from around the world someday. It just hasn’t happened as of today but I know that it will and I cannot wait.

So I love this quote!

I’m not here to be anybody’s version of good or great, I’m just here to strive for me and to remain true!

Once you stop trying to please people that you don’t even know online for likes, you truly gain wings and perspective. The right people will find you because you’re true and honest — free yourself.

Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.”
